The Latest Predictions for Color Trends in 2019

As 2018 winds down, we’re starting to see the new color trends for 2019 come out. Paint companies release their individual colors of the year along with customized palettes to inspire both designers and DIY decorators, and it’s a great way to get a head start on some exciting trends. So, let’s take a look at what 2019 has in store when it comes to home staging and interior design!

Pantone Color Institute hasn’t released their 2019 Color of the Year at the time of writing this, but they released eight unique color palettes to inspire fashion and decor. However, they’re specifically highlighting two color palettes in particular that they predict will be HUGE in 2019.

  • Classico – Looking for elegance that doesn’t exclude color? This palette offers cool, clean white, burgundy, teal, shining black, and warm gray, leading to a modern look that can still feel welcoming.
  • Cravings A palette intended to be tempting, rich, and lush, this palette was inspired by “fetish foods” and includes vibrant red, bold purple, chocolate brown, and a brilliant grass green that can be balanced with a single neutral tan. If you use this palette in your home, you can create a luxurious, fearless statement in color.

Other forecasters are following suit saying that warm, bold, vibrant colors are going to be a growing trend in 2019, with dark green leading the pack in popularity.

Sitting room with beige walls and southwestern decor. Sherwin-Williams Goes for Natural Warmth

Sherwin-Williams released their color of the year recently, and they chose Cavern Clay, a sun-baked red that is both rich and muted. We wrote about Cavern Clay a few weeks ago, along with how you can easily incorporate this gorgeous, southwest-inspired hue in your home.

Along with their Color of the Year, Sherwin-Williams released several beautiful color palettes to create total looks throughout your home. Our favorites include: – With Cavern Clay as the star of this palette, it’s easy to see why we love it! Featuring rich browns, tans, and soft greige, we love how this blends warm neutrals with Cavern Clay and a surprisingly warm blue color called Distance which adds a lovely contrast.

  • Enthusiast – From gold to spicy red to vivid green and purple, this palette is for someone passionate, lively, and not afraid to make a big statement in their home. The 2018 Color of the Year, Oceanside makes a welcome appearance in this palette.
  • Raconteur Love neutrals but don’t want to say no to color? We love this palette for its blend of taupe, beige, and sophisticated black-brown matched to an Orchid, a soft dusty pink and a bold brick-toned red.

PPG was the first paint company to release their color for 2019, and they went with Night Watch, a gorgeous, saturated green that makes you think of walking through a forest at sunset. Surprisingly soothing, this is blue-toned green seems to be everywhere for 2019.

Instead of the blue-toned green, Behr selected Blueprint for their 2019 Color of the Year, a mid-tone blue that is “warmer than denim and softer than navy,” according to Erika Woelfel, Behr’s Vice President of Color.

While we’re still eagerly waiting to see what Benjamin Moore and Pantone choose for their official colors of the year, I think we will continue to see richer, vibrant hues that will transform spaces, infuse them with personality, and have a greater effect on mood and “vibe” than traditional neutrals.

If you’re staging your home to sell, consider using colors like Cavern Clay or Night Watch as accents through your home. While they’re absolutely gorgeous, it’s important to create spaces that appeal to as many buyers as possible, so select neutrals for your walls and furnishings and add pops and accents through pillows, throws, and rugs!
