Your home is your safety net. It can also be your escape from stress and the pressures of everyday life. A place where you can focus on physical and mental self-care. You don’t have to worry about spending a fortune at a day spa when you can create your own home spa with only minimal effort and financial investment.

Maybe you have a small or uninspiring bathroom and need some ideas on what to add or remove in order to achieve the ultimate spa-like atmosphere?  Check out our decorating tips to turn your bathroom into your own little oasis by simply applying a couple of changes here and there to make it more welcoming.  These easy how-to’s will surely transform your bathroom and make every day a spa day.

Plush Towels & Toiletries

Who doesn’t love luxuriously soft and fluffy towels to achieve that spa-like environment and can even have them monogrammed if you really want to go all out!   Choose bath towels made from an absorbent material, such as cotton or bamboo, that will stand up well to washing over time.  Take a few towels and roll them or fold and stack them for a pretty arrangement.  Or you can add an extra special touch and invest in a towel warmer rack so you can wrap yourself in a warm, cozy towel every time you step out of the shower.

One way to reinforce the spa look is by adding those extra details that are pleasing like placing shampoo, body soap, and conditioner into pretty bottles with or without a pump feature.  Clear glass jars in various heights are also great for holding soaps, sponges, cotton balls, and/or q-tips.  Display toiletries on a mirror-type tray by the sink to add a luxurious feel to your vanity area.

Embrace Nature

Place a lovely vase of cut flowers in the space on a shelf or on a countertop.  Potted greenery on the floor or hanging from a ceiling is an easy design trick for bringing nature indoors.  You want to be sure that you choose live plants that will thrive in humidity and a low light bathroom environment.  Incorporating the elements of nature in your spa room’s design can be quite soothing. Consider adding natural wood elements to the room such as bamboo, baskets, and more.

Eliminate Visual Clutter

Make sure that your bathroom is also clutter free just like in home staging you want a space to be inviting and not stuffy or cluttered with too many personal toiletries all on the countertops and packed into bathroom cabinets as this is not conducive to relaxation. For starters, it is ideal to get rid of any products that have expired or have not been used in the last year or more – especially make-up items. As you restock, place any items you don’t use on a regular basis inside cabinets, drawers, or attractive baskets on a shelf.  Utilize counter space wisely and other open storage for the few essentials you use every day, and neatly tuck everything else away.

Install New Shower Hardware

Turn your daily shower into a more rejuvenating experience with an upgraded showerhead model that may have special massaging spray patterns, a handheld component, or a rain showerhead that sprays water from directly above. And if you really want to splurge for the ultimate spa-like bathroom then you can even update your sink faucets or commode, to high-quality models with special features like a waterfall design or touchless automation, or even heated toilet seats!

Comfortable & Calm Color Scheme

Use comfort colors that help relax your senses such as soft, muted color tones, and avoid bright or overwhelming color shades.  Black, white, blue, and even orange colors that are high contrast pairings are just too bold and energizing rather than calming. Nature-inspired colors like soft greens, light grays, warm light browns or pastel blues, and off whites create a more peaceful palette and would feel more like a fancy spa.

Tantalize Your Senses

Spas utilize your five senses by engaging each one in one way or another. When creating an at-home spa you’ll want to use certain scents to instantly transport you to a peaceful place. You can incorporate aromatherapy into your spa-like bathroom with scents like lavender or rosemary.  Scented candles, lotions, or soaps can also be used to set a more tranquil mood.

Next, add soothing music from your phone or hidden speakers but you want to play music with no words because lyrics can trigger subconscious memories which may increase our stress level substantially. Or you can make an investment in a discreet sound system for the room to play relaxing music or inspirational audios that can be adjusted with a remote.

Add a cozy, soft robe, a glass of cucumber water and dim the lights and your bathroom will be instantly transformed into a luxurious spa in no time!  Adding a light dimmer to the room is super easy to install so you can control the rooms lighting easily.

Soft Places to Create soft places to step by covering bathroom floors with plush rugs. Not only do rugs add character and another element of coziness, but they can also prevent you from having to step onto cold tile floors on chilly mornings. For the area right outside the tub or shower, choose a mat made from a quick-drying material to prevent mold and bacteria growth.

Surround Yourself in Candles

The warm glow of candlelight creates a spa-like experience that will instantly relax you and set the mood. Dim the lights and light the candles. Indulge in a warm bath with essential oils. Surround the tub with candles and soak up the scent while you unwind. Use black, amber, sandalwood, and vanilla.
