2018 Color & Design Trends

By August 14, 2017Home Staging

How is it that we are already halfway through the year and color and design trends are already being predicted for 2018!  All of our home stagers and designers at No Vacancy are excited to be inspired by the new colors that our friends at Sherwin-Williams are looking forward to in the coming year.

The Sherwin-Williams Color Forecast embodies the cultures of the moment through 3 distinct color palettes that includes inspiration from Affinity, Connectivity and Sincerity.  Color and design trends are stemming from fashion to technology as well as from finding a sense of community, challenging boundaries, embracing flaws and moving to the beat of our own drum.

Get a jumpstart on these trends for 2018 and be prepared to be inspired. Make your own statement in your next decorating venture, home staging project or office makeover that doesn’t blend in but stands out and starts a conversation!

AFFINITY

Who doesn’t love to add pops of color as the palette for Affinity includes celebrating the connection of people and places. “We are remapping our sense of community, landlocked cities are becoming global hubs of crafts and gastronomy,” says Wadden, Sherwin-Williams Director of Marketing.  The colors trending create a story of striking blues, splashes of fuchsia and warming browns.  Affinity is defined as spontaneous like decorating with a base of neutral colors and throwing in an array of pinks and blues as if going on a last minute getaway: relaxed but full of unexpected fun!

CONNECTIVITY

Add some punctuality to a room with a color palette that reflects Connectivity with tech inspired decor and trending colors like oranges, digital blues, greens and hi-def yellow!  “In Silicon Valley, Austin, Berlin and Beijing, techies are the new hippies, full of breakthrough ideas,” says Wadden.  Data is directing us to design trends that are modern and playful like the bright green fireplace balanced with a much- needed calming effect of understated grays and cream tones in the pillows and wall color.  And of course a contemporary axis style chandelier in a room – now that is instagram worthy!

SINCERITY

The 3rd color palette, Sincerity includes a continuation of minimalism which is here to stay through 2018 but it appears to be taking on a less structured look when it comes to decorating.  “Sincerity is about mindful living and creating an environment to disconnect and recharge,” says Wadden.  As home stagers we always emphasize a less is more and today we are moving more possessions into the cloud.  The color trends for Sincerity are soft, washed neutrals and sanctuary pinks as we step away from contrast or the everyday stresses of life and let one shade of color blend into the next.

Our prediction for 2018 is simple it’s about contentment, comfort and just “LIVING” in the moment!
